RAFIKI RUN & Kids’ Marathon 2011

February 9, 2011

The Rafiki Run

In 2009 and in 2010, a small group of children in grades K-7 participated in a marathon modified just for kids and raised over $7,500 for the children in Kenya and India. Running the Country Music Kids Marathon in Nashville, Tennessee is an effort to offer runners an opportunity to take on the challenge of a race to make a difference in the lives of our friends in Kenya and in India.

This year’s race will be held Friday, April 29, 2011. Our kids are doing the Knoxville one too and that one is April 3rd.  (Kids can participate in any race, but we have done the kids’ marathons in the past two years to get kids on board.)

Anna and Taylor two kids from the Nashville area who will be running (pictured below), are asking for sponsors through the RAFIKI RUN program (“Rafiki” is the word for “friend” in Kiswahili.)  This is a fundraising program for Children of the Kingdom (the child sponsorship program of Share International, Inc.)

The funds that we raise in the RAFIKI RUN will be used for Share International/Children of the Kingdom’s work with children among the Turkana people in northern Kenya and among the Dalit people in India.

If you or your child would like to run please download the PDF here!

Would you consider sponsoring Anna and Taylor in this race and pledging a dollar amount per mile? (They each are running 27.2 miles total for the races since they are running in two kids’ marathons.)  Please give knowing that you are making a difference in the lives of children in need of education and support in Kenya and India.

All gifts are tax-deductible.  Please send contributions by April 29th (the day Anna and Taylor will run the last mile of the Nashville race.)
