Outreach & Church Planting

Between 1997 and 2015, SHARE had reached at least 250,000 Turkana people with the Gospel and planted 218 churches. SHARE is targeting another 650,000 people by 2020. According to our recent survey, the unreached population comprises between 250 and 300 villages within a 15-100km radius from the nearest mother churches planted by our existing 61 trained and supported missionaries and pastors.

If the first 80 missionaries that graduate from our SIMI Training Program in December 2018 join the existing 61 missionaries, at the current outreach rate of 1 missionary for every 4,100 people, SHARE can reach nearly 600,000 by end of 2019! Add another 40 missionaries that will graduate in July 2020 and all the 650,000 people can be reached by 2021!

A missionary with a motorbike can reach at least 6 villages in a year! By December 2015, only 19 missionaries had motorbikes.

How will it be accomplished by 2020?

  1. Evaluate: Evaluate and analyze the spiritual, leadership, and character status of the existing churches first to ensure sound, solid, and meaningful Church growth (not “skin-deep”!).
  2. Map: Identify and map the unreached villages in Turkanaland; perform a statistical analysis of the villages within a 10-km radius of the nearest location of each SI-supported pastor and missionary.
  • Outreach Strategy: Establish a specific outreach strategy and focus on sharing the Gospel in the unreached villages only.
  1. Follow-up: Missionaries and pastors intentionally and proactively commit to spend enough time to follow up and disciple and new believers.
  2. Witnessing: Believers in Discipleship classes be continually challenged to share their faith in their respective homes and villages.
  3. Materials: SHARE to provide the missionaries and pastors with Discipleship materials needed.

We invite you to join us as together we unleash more indigenous missionaries, pastors, and evangelists into the greater, ripe mission field in Turkanaland through the following ministries:

SI Team of Evangelism (SITE)

SITE spearheads accelerated outreach efforts in Turkanaland. It’s responsible for surveying, gathering data, making the initial contact with village leaders, evangelism, and showing The Jesus Film in unreached villages. It paves the way for SI-trained missionaries and pastors who move in to plant churches in the villages reached.

Women’s Ministry

Takes place on weekly basis in the villages where SHARE has planted churches. The ministry focuses on fellowship, Bible study, biblical principles related to personal spiritual growth, role of women in the Church, tithing, health education, sanitation, hygiene and income-generating training projects. The program has witnessed outstanding spiritual growth among the women. As a result of the SI Adult Literacy program in the churches, some women are now able to read and teach the Word of God.

Womens1 Womens2

Men

Focuses on equipping men to become strong Christian men and effective husbands and fathers, disciples of Christ, and to enhance and build a community of godly men in their churches and villages. The ministry also recruits, trains, and mentors men’s small group leaders in churches and establishes regular training program for such leaders. Missionaries and pastors are encouraged to create opportunities for men to grow spiritually – challenging them to pray, share the Gospel, attend quarterly men’s conferences, and engage in community development projects.

Children

The program ministers hand in hand with the Women’s ministry in the villages. The children are taught Bible verses, songs, and prayer. They are served with a protein-rich porridge supplement (“Unimix”) and cookies at the end of the lesson, and then released to join their mothers in the Women’s program. Children are putting their faith in Christ as Savior in large numbers. The program is identifying and training youth in the churches who are becoming Children’s Sunday School teachers on Sundays in their respective churches.

Childrens

Girls Empowerment

Ministers to adolescent Turkana girls in remote villages. The program educates and trains girls in various practical skills that impacts a whole people-group for the better for generations to come. Training includes basketry and soap-making at the SEND Center in Lodwar. The girls go back to their villages to start small businesses. While at the SEND Center, the Gospel is presented and Scriptures taught to the girls.

CHURCH PLANTING & SPIRITUAL GROWTH

The Church Planting & Discipleship Program has been sending and supporting passionate, indigenous Turkana missionaries and pastors to remote parts of Turkanaland since 1997. These servants are more accepted among the hundreds unreached villages in the uttermost parts of Turkanaland.

By December 2015, SHARE was supporting 61 missionaries and pastors who planted 218 churches across Turkanaland. As a result, over 40,000 people had put their faith in Christ as Savior. Through our Discipleship Program, spiritual growth and maturity continue to be evident among the churches. “The LORD has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes” (Ps. 118:23)!
