Blessing Blankets

As the coordinator of Children of the Kingdom, I have a passion for children in Kenya and India.  As a way to support the ministry, I am thankful for the chance to offer special, custom-made baby blankets. I have been making these blankets for friends and family to celebrate their newborn babies for over ten years. Through their design, these blankets literally wrap the babies in the prayers and blessings from family and friends.



Just What Are These Blessing Blankets?
These polar fleece blankets have stars or butterflies quilted onto the blankets with the prayers written on small pieces of cloth which are sewn under each of the cut out shapes.
How Do I Make it Happen?

• I ask the recipient of the blanket to send me a list of emails for their family and close friends.

• I send the following e-mail to this list of family and friends.

“Dear friends of ______________________, I am writing to enlist your help. I am planning on making a special blanket for Baby ________ to welcome him or her into the world. Here’s how you can help to make it special:

Please write a prayer or blessing for Baby _______ or find a poem, song or quote that you would like to share with the ________ to welcome their baby. Then send it back to me in an e-mail by ____________. This gives you one week to complete this.

I will then write your words in permanent marker on a little square cloth that I will sew under some stars on a blanket for Baby _________. In this way, their baby will be wrapped up in all of our prayers! I will also type up the prayers and include them in a special book so that they will know what you all are praying for them. Please keep a copy of your prayer as a reminder to pray for them during this pregnancy.

• As family and friends email me special blessings and prayers, I handwrite these along with the author’s name on a small piece of cloth in permanent marker. If the blessing is too long to fit on the cloth, I will write the first few lines.

• I sew the blessings under the stars or butterflies.

• The gift I send to the recipient includes the blanket and a printed copy of the blessings and prayers gathered from each friend or family member.

Blanket Specifications:

Each blanket will include seven white polar fleece stars or five butterflies placed in a random fashion on the blanket. The border of the blanket is a simple hem around the edge. The dimensions will be approximately 36” x 30”. For a color you may choose blue, pink or yellow.

You may submit up to 30 email addresses for me to contact with the email above. The email will be sent out and recipients will have one week to respond. Any blessings sent after this time will not be included.

Cost

Each blanket costs $100, and $75 of this is tax deductible. You will receive a record of your charitable contribution for that amount for tax purposes. This cost will include the blanket, the packet of prayers, and the postage.
