Brief History of Share International, Inc.
SHARE International, Inc. (SI) is an evangelical Missions organization founded in 1989 by Sammy and Mary Murimi, Kenyan nationals. The ministry grew out of the vision and inspiration to spread the Gospel among the unreached people-groups, particularly among the 1 million Turkana people of northwestern desert region of Kenya. Sammy’s involvement in Missions goes back to 1978 when the Lord called him to ministry while studying in Britain. On one occasion in summer of that year, as he watched a documentary on BBC TV in Birmingham, England, that was featuring the Turkana people of Kenya, Sammy sensed a real burden to reach that people-group with the Gospel. On January 18, 1989, while studying for his M. Div./Missions degree at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (TEDS) in Illinois, the words “SHARE the gospel… (and) our lives” in 1 Thessalonians 2:8 made a strong impression on Sammy…
It was at that moment that SHARE International was born.
